The First Step is Always the Hardest
Happy Monday Everyone!!
I apologize for the delay in posts. It was all set for the start of this week as we prepare for our first “blog series”- “The First Step is Always the Hardest”. This week's series involves a big task that will help begin the encouragement of beginning new and better habits.
This week on Mindful Living, we will be decluttering, organizing, and deep cleaning our living spaces. Now, I know this first step can feel overwhelming and you may say, “Well I don’t even know where to start!!” Do not worry! This task is broken up into a series of steps to help cope with those overwhelming feelings.
As some of you know, I am building habits with you all. A couple weeks ago I accomplished this first step and let me tell you, it is so important and necessary!! It allowed me to have a fresh start and that is so important when building new habits. But I cannot lie either, I needed help to do this and I encourage all of you to reach out to someone you love to help you through this task, because there can be so many anxieties that come along with it.
All of the tasks I am recommending are set up to be broken up over the course of the week, to help ease the weight this task may come with. However, if you find yourself altering the tasks to better cater to your living situation, or you find more time and motivation to complete more, DO IT!!
*Note- I am trying my best to make this series relatable/suitable for all living situations. Some may have less, or more tasks than others
Today’s Tasks-
Today we are going to start with a big thing- decluttering.
Tasks:
Going through clothes and household items and deciding the necessity for keeping them.
Deciding what can be safely donated and organizing what needs to be thrown away and disposed of properly.
Begin washing and folding as much laundry as possible with leaving enough time to wash bedding and sheets to start the week in clean clothes and a clean bed. (It’s totally okay to work on this throughout the week, I first hand understand how laundry can build up!)
Quick sweeep of a slight organization to prepare for future tasks.
If possible- go to bed at a decent time to allow yourself to begin the process of waking up earlier starting Tuesday!
Remember- this is set up to be a week long task, so some spaces may be left unfinished at the end of the day. And that is okay. Complete what is within your own capabilities.
Using Mindfulness
This blog introduces a very common and popular coping task called “Mindfulness”. Mindfulness allows us to be aware of our feelings, surroundings, and worries and address them in a healthy, productive way.
Today I would like you to take a look at the link below to get a better understanding of what mindfulness is, and tools you can start using today as we begin to clean our living spaces.
Another thing I would like for you to do would be to be aware of your physical functions- I.E. feeling hunger or thirst. I want you to really pay attention to these que’s, and eat/ drink anytime you need to. Fueling our bodies is a great step in building better mental health.
Resources
With most posts I will be providing a couple of resources to help with building habits and using mindfulness to help cope with our anxieties.
“Atomic Habits”, by James Clear is a great book giving a new perspective on ways we can build better habits.

Mindful.org is a great resource for practicing mindfulness. You can do meditations and read blogs on different ways to practice mindfulness
Happy Cleaning!
Feel free to share your accomplishments with others, or even with our other readers in the comments!
