The First Step is Always the Hardest- Day 2
Happy Tuesday!!
This week on Mindful Living, we will be decluttering, organizing, and deep cleaning our living spaces. Now, I know this first step can feel overwhelming and you may say, “Well I don’t even know where to start!!” Do not worry! This task is broken up into a series of steps to help cope with those overwhelming feelings.
I hope that you all were able to get to bed at a decent time and I hope you all were able to accomplish some of the tasks I recommended for Monday’s Blog. If you didn’t, that’s okay! We are working through this together, if you did, great! Cleaning our living space is not easy for many, and this is a judgement free zone.
Today’s Tasks
Each day is going to be a progression with an end goal to better help your mental health through allowing yourself to have a “fresh start”. I did this myself, and let me tell you, it is so much easier to build my habits in a clean space. With this in mind today’s tasks are going to piggyback off of what we started yesterday.
Take all of the trash and items you want to safely donate to the proper facilities- meaning dispose of your trash in your trash cans/ go to the dump. And donate any items you feel are fit for donation.
Keep continuing washing, drying and folding your laundry.
Find ways to begin organizing your personal belongings in a way that is most effective for you.
Organization looks different for everyone!!
Organize and deep clean your bathroom.
Do some self care- shower, brush your teeth, anything you consider “self care”.
Go to bed at a reasonable time to allow an earlier wake up time.
*Remember- I know that some of these tasks may take some longer than others due to motivation, or even size of space. All tasks may not apply to you and your living space- alter them to fit your needs!!
Using Mindfulness
Today we are beginning to get into the deep cleaning which can be tedious. But today remind yourselves of the reasons you are doing this. This may look different for everyone, but when I did this mine looked like this-
“I am doing this because a fresh start is what I need.”
“A clean living space encourages elaborate thinking, leading to better habit building.”
“I know I don’t want to do this but I will thank myself later.”
When I was really struggling, I called a friend to come help, or even just had them on the phone so I did not feel so alone.
Resources
A big part of using mindfulness involves some level of meditation. Though this isn’t a specific recommendation with a link, on many smart phones, there are a variety of apps that allow you to learn new forms of meditation. Pick an app that you find most helpful, and begin practicing it whenever you feel overwhelmed. Either way, I encourage you to start the practice of meditation with your app before bed, and when you wake up.
When accomplishing big tasks, some like to make a written to do list. On many smart phones, there is an app available called “ToDo List”, which allows you to schedule tasks, create lists, and get reminders on things you would like to accomplish. It also keeps track of your accomplishments
Happy Cleaning!
Remember, we are all doing this together. Feel free to share your progress with others! Be proud of it.
